Episode 68: Air Health with Dr. Erika Maria Moseson

On this week’s episode I chat with Dr. Erika Maria Moseson, a lung and ICU doctor in Oregon. Her phrase for health and wellness is air health. She says don’t light things on fire and breathe them into your lungs. This applies to tobacco, diesel, forests and more. She shares how as a lung and ICU doctor she realized how many patients she saw in the critical care setting due to people breathing in unhealthy air. She discussed how that is compounded by economic instability and racial inequities. We chat about vaping, the tobacco industry, wildfires, diesel and more. FULL BIO: Dr. Erika Maria Moseson is a pulmonary and critical care medicine physician (or “lung and ICU doctor” depending on your audience). She attended medical school at Cornell University, trained at UCSF for internal medicine and completed her fellowship at Oregon Health and Sciences University. She is the founder of Air Health Our Health, an educational resource regarding the intersection between breathing healthy air and the wellbeing and wealth of our communities. She hosts the Air Health Our Health podcast, interviewing experts on everything from tobacco and vaping to diesel exhaust and policy options to improve public health. She is passionate about physician advocacy, and is one of the American Lung Association’s Health Professionals for Clean Air and Climate Action. She is the past President of Oregon Thoracic Society and practices full time pulmonary and critical care medicine while mothering three amazing young children.   

Episode 64: Neuroendometabolic Stress Response with Dr. Carrie Lam

This week’s episode features Dr. Carrie Lam, MD, DABFM, ABAARM, FAAMFM. She is a board certified family medicine physician with additional certification in anti-aging, regenerative medicine and functional medicine. We discuss in this episode adrenal fatigue. She describes her journey into this field by learning from her father, Dr. Michael Lam, who has been doing nutritional telephone coaching since 2008 to help people recover from adrenal fatigue. She discusses how now we understand that stress actually affects the whole body in many different ways. She is a part of the Lam Clinic, a team of physicians and health professionals who believe in whole-person care. Dr. Lam hopes to change the future of medicine by being able to provide integrative medicine as regular medicine for all. Her advice to others is that the way to wellness is not a bandaid or narrow focus, but to get to the root cause and make sure to look at the big picture with all systems in place. She advises people to take a good listen to your body’s symptoms and ask yourself why you’re having the symptom and investigate the root cause. Your body has the ability to heal if given the right tools.

This week’s episode features Dr. Marion McCrary, an Internal Medicine Physician and Certified Integrative Health and Wellness Coach in Durham, NC. She discusses the feeling of overwhelm in her own personal life and how to address this feeling that is so prevalent amongst not only women but in people in general.

She talks about discovering health coaching to help patients and others as she was able to address the overwhelm in her own life.

Her advice to others is if you find yourself overwhelmed and yearning for more time for yourself, follow these steps:

1. Determine your priorities: Do, Delegate, Delete, and Defer

2. Set boundaries to protect yourself and your relationships

3. Avoid relapse

She is also the author of two books: Hatha Yoga Asanas and Adaptive Yoga. She is an incredibly creative and inspiring yoga teacher, who has made it her purpose to incorporate medicine into yoga, and yoga into medicine. Dr. Yang leads classes, trainings, and workshops all over the United States, Australia, Europe and Asia. Episode 46: Ever Evolving with Dr. Lynn Stiff

Lynn Stiff, MD, RD, MS is a dietitian-turned-physician passionate about empowering individuals to make realistic and sustainable diet and lifestyle choices that can prevent, treat and reverse chronic disease. Episode 7: Sustainability with Dr. Stacie Bass

Dr. Stacie Bass is a physician anesthesiologist in Houston, TX.  She is also a mom of 3 kiddos (age 5, 7, and 9), a fitness lover, certified personal trainer, and competitive bodybuilder.  Dr. Bass grew up in Houston, TX, and is a proud Texas Longhorn (c/o 2001), completing medical school and anesthesiology residency at UTMB in Galveston, TX in 2009 (where she met her husband, Michael) . They had a “short” 8 year stint in Lexington Kentucky where they had all their kids, and she spent years as a “runner” completing 10 half marathons, eventually finding her love of weightlifting/bodybuilding. Stacie nationally qualified in the bikini division in 2017 and 2018, and plans to compete in 2020 in the figure division. In 2020 she earned her NASM Certified personal training certification. In addition to her upcoming  bodybuilding competitions, her goals for this year are to complete a more extensive nutrition certification to supplement the ACE Certification she earned in 2018, and to help coach others to learn their way around the weight room, balance in both nutrition and fitness, and how to stay consistent despite all the obstacles that life throws at us.
