FULL BIO: Nicole Harkin, MD, FACC is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Echocardiography, Nuclear Cardiology, and Clinical Lipidology. After graduating from Boston University School of Medicine, she attended Columbia University for Internal Medicine residency and New York University for Cardiology fellowship. Upon completion of her Cardiology fellowship, including serving as a chief fellow, she remained on at NYU as an Assistant Attending. In her role as a private practice cardiologist in Manhattan, she helped countless patients treat and prevent heart disease. She is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, as well as a member of the National Lipid Association and American Society for Preventive Cardiology. Dr Harkin recently moved to San Francisco, CA with her family and founded Whole Heart Cardiology, with the mission of providing patient centered cardiac care, evidence-based nutritional guidance, and personalized lifestyle plans for her patients in a modern setting. She takes pride in helping patients achieve their goals, feel better, and thrive. When not doctoring, she spends the majority of her time with her three young children. She also enjoys cooking, yoga, Peloton-ing, hiking, and traveling.

Dr. Ariana Witkin is a pediatrician and postpartum coach who shares on this week’s episode about what a lifeboat means. She shares how her experience as a new mom compelled her to become a postpartum coach. She talks about different strategies she utilizes for her postpartum clients and the different types of postpartum education she offers. Her advice she gives to new moms or expecting moms is don’t forget your lifeboat – create your postpartum plan and to trust yourself.

Episode 57: Chronic Stress Management with Dr. Bindiya Gandhi

Welcome to this week’s episode on stress management! What an important topic especially in the time of COVID-19 when we are all feeling so incredibly stressed in different ways. In this week’s episode, I chat with Dr. Bindiya Gandhi about chronic stress management. She says she’s always known that she wanted to practice more than a traditional medicine practice. She became yoga and Reiki certified in medical school and started learning about integrative medicine while in medical school. After completion of her family practice residency, she completed her integrative medicine and functional medicine fellowships.

During residency, she talks about dealing with stress and the ability to heal herself through her knowledge of integrative and functional medicine. She discusses how chronic stress can be a gateway to other chronic medical conditions, notably decreasing your immune system. How do we react to stress in a positive way? How do we manifest stress in our lives?

FULL BIO: Dr. Bindiya Gandhi is double boarded by the American Board Family Medicine as well as the American Board of Integrative and Holistic Physicians. She completed her family medicine training from Georgia Regents University/Medical College of Georgia June 2014. She completed her undergraduate training at the University of Georgia with Bachelors of Science in Biology and Psychology in 2004 and her Doctor of Medicine at American University of Antigua College of Medicine in 2010. She completed an Integrative medicine fellowship at the University of Arizona with Dr. Andrew Weil in 2016. She also completed Functional Medicine Training with the Institute of Functional Medicine in 2017.

Her interests include integrative, holistic and functional medicine, women’s health, preventative medicine, international medicine and health care reform. She’s also a certified yoga instructor and reiki master. She used to  practice emergency medicine as well. Dr. Bindiya is a media expert and contributor to numerous sites including The Daily Mail, MindbodyGreen, PopSugar, Clean Plated, Well + Good and more! When she’s not working or writing you can find her in the kitchen cooking, doing yoga or enjoying time with her family and pup.

In this week’s episode I chat with Dr. Jessica Lubahn, a urologist and founder of the company ONDRwear. Hear how she decided to embark on this journey and what made her decide to start this company. She says that she witnessed not only the daily frustrations and embarrassment that arose from urinary leakage (urinary incontinence) in both men and women, but also the limitations and potential side effects of more invasive treatment. 

The word that she chose was “destigmatization” because she wants to bring awareness about just how common this issue is with the hopes of having open conversations without the shame or stigma that sometimes comes with living with incontinence.
