Episode 7: Sustainability with Dr. Stacie Bass

Dr. Stacie Bass is a physician anesthesiologist in Houston, TX.  She is also a mom of 3 kiddos (age 5, 7, and 9), a fitness lover, certified personal trainer, and competitive bodybuilder.  Dr. Bass grew up in Houston, TX, and is a proud Texas Longhorn (c/o 2001), completing medical school and anesthesiology residency at UTMB in Galveston, TX in 2009 (where she met her husband, Michael) . They had a “short” 8 year stint in Lexington Kentucky where they had all their kids, and she spent years as a “runner” completing 10 half marathons, eventually finding her love of weightlifting/bodybuilding. Stacie nationally qualified in the bikini division in 2017 and 2018, and plans to compete in 2020 in the figure division. In 2020 she earned her NASM Certified personal training certification. In addition to her upcoming  bodybuilding competitions, her goals for this year are to complete a more extensive nutrition certification to supplement the ACE Certification she earned in 2018, and to help coach others to learn their way around the weight room, balance in both nutrition and fitness, and how to stay consistent despite all the obstacles that life throws at us. Dr. Tamyra Comeaux is a native of California. She attended UCLA and obtained a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts. She finished medical school and completed an Obstetrics and Gynecology residency. Then she started her own private practice in 2000. After a few years in practice, Dr. Comeaux became frustrated with the current medical model. She found that a disease focused approach to medicine was unrewarding. There were two important things missing for her- the love of connecting with the spirit of the patient and the joy of supporting the human body in finding its way to healing had disappeared. As she continued her education and journey to become the best doctor she could possibly be, she obtained her Masters in Holistic Nutrition, a naturopathic medical degree, and became certified by the Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine Board. She completed an Integrative Cancer therapy fellowship, and obtained certificates in Advanced aromatherapy, and Master Herbalism. Dr. Comeaux retired from traditional medicine after 14 years and began her focus on the prevention and natural treatment of diseases. She continues to practice in the Woodlands, TX providing
natural hormone replacement and vaginal rejuvenation. Connect with Dr. Comeaux on Facebook @ Dr. Comeaux, @ Gyno Goddess or e-mail vitadoc2@gmail.com

Podcast now on iTunes! (and postponing conference)

First thing’s first: we unfortunately have to postpone our inaugural conference next month. We were about to release early tickets when COVID-19 cases started popping up, and decided to wait. And now, as you are all aware, this is affecting the entire world. We have decided to postpone the event but know that it is the best decision and that when things settle down we will be able to put on an amazing event. But, onwards and upwards!

Our podcast is now available on iTunes and we couldn’t be more excited. With all the uncertainty and chaos that’s currently going on due to COVID-19, I struggled initially with continuing to record and drop episodes. But I felt it was important to continue putting out more episodes and to be honest, it has been a welcome breath of fresh air. I’m grateful to still be here, safe and healthy, to provide you with 40 minutes of time.

The podcast is located here on iTunes: WISH Well Podcast on iTunes

I had previously written about my first podcast, and so wanted to share show notes and links to the next few episodes and will start posting show notes more regularly.

EPISODE 2: Acceptance with Dr. Heather Colmenter

In this episode, you will meet Dr. Heather Colmenter. Heather and I have known each other since 2007 when I was an intern and she was my upper level resident. But we didn’t reconnect again until long after we both had graduated from residency and were in practice. Her word for health and wellness is acceptance, and she will describe her journey as a busy full time anesthesiologist to her diagnosis of breast cancer and how that changed her path. Dr. Colmenter is a board certified anesthesiologist, integrative medicine fellow, and pain management fellow. She is also a breast cancer survivor. Hear her story of acceptance and how she rose above all of her challenges. She credits her support system of her family and friends, her spirituality, and her self care. She co-founded the non-profit organization Hola Bloom (www.holabloom.org) whose mission is to provide breast cancer education and awareness accessible also for Spanish speakers. Heather is also helping to manifest our inaugural WISH Well conference this May in Houston, TX.

EPISODE 3: On COVID-19 (Special episode with me)

I struggled with moving forward with continuing to post on social media without addressing the COVID-19 pandemic. This week’s episode is a short one. I just wanted to discuss my thoughts on what is going on at this very moment in our nation and in our world. This affects every single person. Please take a listen. Stay safe. Stay healthy. I will be bringing back my weekly interviews next week. #stayhome #flattenthecurve

EPISODE 4: Flow with Albina Rippy

I’m grateful to be able to continue bringing you these episodes. In this time of uncertainty and chaos in the world, I wanted to bring you some hope. I recorded this episode about a month ago, and things were a little different at that time. There was a threat of this coronavirus, but it was all the way on the other side of the world. Albina chose her word for health and wellness as “flow”. She will discuss why she chose that word. I felt this word was important considering what is going on currently. Achieving a flow state in this pandemic to me means adjusting to the ups and downs and by doing so, we can achieve a steady state in our lives, in order to find that new normal. In this episode, you will hear me chat with Albina Rippy, who I have known since 2014 after taking yoga classes at her yoga studio. She describes her word for health and wellness as flow, and she definitely demonstrates that, from moving to a foreign country at age 16, to becoming a CPA, to opening up a yoga studio to then selling her studios to travel the world. Albina Rippy is a serial entrepreneur, success coach, inspirational speaker, hotelierand a world traveler. After a decsde of starting and growing her businesses into thriving communities of yoga, healthy, holistic lifestyle, personal growth and transformation, she sold all of her worldly possessions to travel and explore the world together with her husband and daughters and fluffy dog, Dante.

Albina adds massive value by contributing to the success and happiness of people around the world through her success and business coaching. Find more information about Albina and all that she manifests at www.albinarippy.com and her retreat center Blue Sky in Taos, NM at www.blueskyretreatcenter.com

EPISODE 5: Rest & Accountability with Dr. Jill Wener

After 10+ years practicing Internal Medicine at Rush University Medical Center, Jill knows firsthand what severe stress and burnout feel like. In the midst of her own burnout, she was introduced to Conscious Health Meditation, and it had a profound effect on her resilience and reactivity. Like many healthcare professionals, Jill was initially skeptical of spiritual practices. However, as she learned the science behind Conscious Health Meditation, she embraced the training and marveled at the results of the practice. After 2 years of advanced coursework, Jill completed her 3-month teacher training in Rishikesh, India in April, 2016. Jill strongly believes that there is no ‘quick fix’; no singular technique can address all of the physical and emotional challenges of practicing medicine. When she discovered tapping at a conference for women physicians in 2017 and began using it herself, she was amazed at how well it complemented her meditation practice and helped her manage stress. She became certified in tapping in 2019, and finds tremendous joy facilitating incredible growth and benefits with her tapping clients. Jill’s 8+ years of practicing and teaching stress-reduction modalities such as meditation and tapping, combined with the teaching and mentoring skills developed during her academic medical career, her personal experience with burnout, and her intimate understanding of the healthcare system, make her uniquely suited to teach meditation and other stress-reduction techniques to healthcare professionals from all fields. Stepping out of Fear into… a Podcast

I started listening to Brene Brown’s book, Daring Greatly in my car during rides to and from work. It was on my wishlist of audible books, and after I finished listening to the hilarious Ali Wong’s book Dear Girls, I wanted something a little bit more inspiring.
These last few weeks have been a blur. After I decided to put together a women’s conference along with 2 of my dear friends, Dr. Heather Colmenter and Emeline Stout, everything was set in motion. And while I have been stressed trying to figure out all the minute details, it has been such an exciting and eye opening experience.
Along with that, I decided to start a podcast, and my first episode featuring just ME was released this morning. Trust me when I say there’s a lot of fear in stepping into that space of vulnerability. Where I share my story of all the things that I do and how I want to do more. How can my word, balance, ring true if I am constantly shifting and doing so many things. How can I be good at all that I do if I sometimes spread myself too thin? I don’t know the answer to that, but I am the most motivated and driven doing it all than I have ever been. Thinking through it all, I know I need to have a purpose, and need to feel like I’m being fulfilled. On the outside it seems like I have it all, but I am still trying to find my way.

I hope you take a listen and subscribe to the podcast. I have some inspiring women lined up to join me and chat with me on the series.

My first episode is BALANCE

Launching the WISH Well Podcast series

We are starting our podcast series!

My very first episode is dropping on THURSDAY! This is definitely a labor of love. Last month I had the idea of starting a women’s health and wellness conference and along with a few friends and colleagues (Dr. Heather Colmenter and Emeline Stout with Elastique Atheltics) the idea was set into motion. Somehow along the way, I decided to start a PODCAST.

Ok, first. I have never put together a conference. Second, I have never started a podcast. Stepping way outside my comfort zone and into this world has been so exciting but also imposter syndrome is rearing its ugly head. It is stepping out of my comfort zone and into vulnerability that is the scariest part, as I will be sharing my journey with the public. But I’m also so excited to be talking with some inspirational women in the next few weeks/months and I hope you all subscribe and listen.

The podcast is the WISH Well Podcast and is available on all the platforms (some are still pending but should be available soon). Link to the podcast in bio or https://anchor.fm/wishwell (on Spotify https://open.spotify.com/show/5Ak3QOa5ehfyCprXk0HnWg)

I’m dropping my first episode on Thursday, and I JUST finished recording with Heather for hers next week. I’ll be posting show notes on this blog and I absolutely cannot wait to continue sharing stores from some amazing and inspirational women!
